Meet the Vampire Squid!

Have you heard about the deep sea creature called Vampire Squid? I never knew it until I found this video from Monterey Bay Aquarium Research Institute.

This velvety red blob is said to have survived 165 million years ago, virtually unchanged, and unseen… The vampire squid is an ancient species and is a phylogenic relict, meaning that is the only surviving member of the order Vampyromorphida.

On the video clip above, the MBARI who filmed the amazing footage of this odd looking squid explains further details, must watch!

Despite of its monstrous name, this creature can only grow to only about six inches in length.

When threatened, the vampire squid can flip its webbing completely over its body to protect itself from predators.’
