According to local myths, the aye-aye is a demon that can kill just by pointing a finger. Not quite… but for a grub, its bizarre middle digit can be a deadly weapon.
The aye-aye is a lemur, a primate native to Madagascar, with weird mix appearance of monkey, rodent, and bat. It is characterize with a special thin middle finger to fill the same ecological niche as a woodpecker.
Aye-Aye is distinguished by its unusual method of finding food — it taps on trees to find grubs, and then gnaws holes in the wood using its forward slanting incisors to create a small hole in which it inserts its narrow middle finger to pull the grubs out.
